The 2017 APC Series season officially came to close on Saturday, October 21st with the 3rd annual awards banquet held at the Four Points Sheraton in London, ON. The event was once again an overwhelming success with a gathering of nearly 250 sponsors, officials, drivers, & family. The evening began with a cocktail hour followed by an exceptional dinner and then kicked off into the awards portion followed by dancing and great times.
The awards portion of the evening began with a highlight video that showed the highs, the lows, and the fun everyone had throughout the gruelling and demanding 10 race schedule. Next, all sponsors in attendance were individually called to the stage and presented with a thank you plaque for their contributions to the 2017 season. The final sponsor called to the stage was the series title sponsor, APC Auto Parts Centre’s. Company Vice President Steve Drake was given the mic for a few words where he thanked everyone and made a special announcement declaring APC had extended its sponsorship for the series as the title sponsor with a 3 year contract extension.
The evening then progressed into the driver awards where it was kicked off with a new award to the series, this award sponsored by Park Road Automotive was thought up by store owner’s Scott & Pam Stewart. The Sportsmanship award in memory of Jamie Ramsay was voted on by the driver’s peers, and was presented to Tom Gibbons, who would become the first recipient of the award.
Following the presentation of the Sportsmanship award, a video highlighting the 2017 Rookie of the Year, Treyten Lapcevich, was projected on the big screens. The 13 year old rookie sensation then went up on stage and was toasted by banquet MC Jamie Maudsley with a glass of milk. Lapcevich then proceeded to give his acceptance speech where he had the crowd laughing and cheering. Lapcevich also collected his plaques and bonus cheque from Rookie of the Year sponsor MacMaster of Orangeville.
Proceeding the Rookie of the Year, all drivers from 16th – 6th were called to stage to accept their plaque for their respective points finish. The top 5 were all honoured with a video highlighting their season and called to the stage individually. The Top 5 were also given the opportunity to give a quick speech, where they all thanked their fans, sponsors, and families as well as congratulating the 2017 champion. It was then Brandon Watson’s turn to come to the stage after his season highlight video. Watson was officially crowned champion and awarded his championship awards, the championship plaque, as well as the large cheque featuring his 2017 payout and trip to Los Cabos.
Once the driver awards were all handed out it was time for a little comedy, Series President Luke Ramsay’s general comments, and the draw prizes. A series of mean messages were read on screen by series officials, offering some laughs to those in attendance. Luke Ramsay handed the outstanding contributor to the series award, which was given to the Graham family this season for all their hard work and time given to help the series grow. Following the presentation, Ramsay thanked all fans, drivers, sponsors, series officials and made some general comments on 2018 including a rise in the series purse. The final order of business on the evening was to hand out the draw prizes where Rick Burbridge was the big winner, walking away with a brand new 604 crate motor courtesy of APC and supplied by Bennett GM.
The 2017 season is now officially complete for the APC Series with the conclusion of the annual banquet and what an amazing season and awards night it was. The series continues to grow and it is in large part due to the contributions from everyone involved. The series would like to say thank you to everyone involved in our amazing group and we cannot wait for 2018.
